DESCRIPTION:Come spend the day learning how to weave a classic round wicker basket. Wicker baskets are made with round material and offer many possibilities for functional and sculptural baskets. We will start with a radiating spoke base and will weave the sides with a focus on shaping and design elements and incorporating some natural materials with the natural and dyed reed on hand. It starts with a square base and moves to a round form which sits on four-pointed base corners. This is a traditional Shaker style basket with many variations in its shape and size and makes a beautiful storage basket. This version has a continuous twill pattern adding to its elegance. The contrasting colours and textures of willow bark highlight the beautiful pattern of this Diamond Twill variation. We will cover all the steps from bark harvest through to finished project. Starting with discussion and slides illustrating the bark harvest\, demos and hands on preparation of the bark for weaving and the step-by-step weaving of the tray.
