I had the honour of being invited along with 7 other Salt Spring artisans, to our sister city Yamanaka, Japan. This thrilling trip was full of inspiring sights and experiences to say the least. Yamanaka is famous for its natural hot springs and lacquer artisans. Our friends and hosts in Yamanaka organized a supremely wonderful 5 days which I, for one, will never forget.
After our time in Yamanaka, my friend Rumi and I arranged to visit Beppu where the Bamboo Research Institute and Bamboo Basketry Trade School is located. We also spent a few days in Kyoto and Tokyo to top it all off. It was a magical trip from start to finish.
